About this subject

Cambridge IGCSE Accounting: what parents should know.

Cambridge IGCSE Accounting (0452) is a globally recognised qualification set by CAIE, preparing students aged 14 to 16 to understand financial records, business transactions, and the principles behind them.

What it is

IGCSE Accounting is a two-year Cambridge qualification covering double-entry bookkeeping, financial statements, and business decision-making. It builds a strong foundation for A-Level Accounting and future study in finance or business.

How it is graded

The qualification is assessed through two written examination papers. CAIE grades results on a scale from A* to G, with marks determined by a combination of knowledge, application, and analysis across the mark scheme.

When exams happen

CAIE offers IGCSE Accounting in two exam series each year. Most GCC schools enter students for the May/June series, though the October/November session is available for those who need an alternative sitting.

A group class can't do this.

Lessons built around the gaps

Every session targets the exact topics holding your child back, whether that's ledger entries, income statements, or ratio analysis.

Real past-paper technique

Tutors work through timed CAIE past papers and mark schemes so students know exactly what examiners expect in every question type.

Parents kept in the loop

After every session, parents receive tutor notes and a progress update so you always know what was covered and what comes next.

What is IGCSE Accounting?

The Cambridge qualification that makes financial sense.

Cambridge IGCSE Accounting (syllabus code 0452) is set by Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE). It is designed for students aged 14 to 16 and is taught widely across international schools in the GCC and globally.

Assessment is through two written papers covering both theoretical knowledge and practical application of accounting principles. CAIE grades the qualification from A* to G, with the exam series running in May/June and October/November each year.

Every Tuitional lesson follows the exact CAIE 0452 syllabus, covering all four topic areas: basic bookkeeping, ledger accounts, financial statements, and interpretation. Nothing drifts from what appears on the real paper.

Inside a lesson

What a one-to-one IGCSE Accounting lesson actually looks like

Every session follows four tested phases: recap, teach, apply, review. The structure keeps lessons focused and ensures nothing important is left until the night before the exam.

Book a trial lesson

A typical 60-minute session

  1. 0-5 min

    Recap and quick diagnostic

The tutor opens by reviewing the previous session's homework and asking two or three quick questions to spot any lingering gaps before new material is introduced.

Example: The tutor asks the student to post a credit purchase into the correct ledger account to confirm the double-entry rule is secure.

  2. 5-25 min

    Teach the target topic

The tutor explains the lesson's focus topic using clear worked examples on a shared whiteboard, building from definitions through to full worked calculations the student can follow step by step.

Example: Preparing a complete income statement and statement of financial position from a trial balance, following the CAIE 0452 syllabus layout.

  3. 25-50 min

    Apply it to past-paper questions

The student attempts real CAIE past-paper questions under timed conditions. The tutor then marks against the official mark scheme and explains exactly where marks are awarded or lost.

Example: Tackling a Paper 2 structured question on partnership accounts, practising the format CAIE examiners expect for appropriation accounts.

  4. 50-60 min

    Review, set homework, report

The tutor summarises key takeaways, sets a short targeted homework task, and logs session notes so parents and students can review progress after the call ends.

Example: Homework set to complete a depreciation table using both the straight-line and reducing balance methods, ready to review next session.

After the lesson

Parents receive written tutor notes, a summary of topics covered, and the homework set. Session recordings are available immediately on the platform, so your child can replay any explanation they need to revisit.

Parent Feedback

Why families across the GCC trust Tuitional for IGCSE Accounting.

My son went from barely understanding double-entry bookkeeping to confidently preparing full financial statements. His IGCSE Accounting tutor broke everything down patiently and always linked it back to the actual exam paper. The difference in his confidence has been remarkable.

The things parents and students ask us most, in plain language.

?Which CAIE Accounting syllabus do your tutors follow?+
